Hooked On Granite Ltd is the holding company that allows us to trade as both Joe Brown’s and The Climbers Shop but don’t let that fool you into thinking we are some big faceless company. Oh no. Please allow us to introduce ourselves: we are Paul and Cathy Casey; owners of Hooked On Granite Ltd who, along with our fantastic team of staff, are climbers, walkers, mountaineers, ultra runners, backpackers, paddlers, cyclists – whatever the activity, we love being outdoors!

If you read our Big History you’ll understand that we see ourselves as proud custodians of our historic businesses which are two of the most established outdoor retail brands in the UK, embedded in climbing and mountaineering history. We strive to be a responsible business, continuing the legacy of those who opened our shops originally in the 1950’s and 60’s by supporting local events, supporting expeditions and, of course; selling the best range of quality specialist outdoor clothing and equipment available.

We are in business to help people discover and enjoy the outdoor environment and we fully recognise the connection between encouraging people to get outside more and the impact tourism has on the environment. We do our best to be a responsible business by focusing on minimising our environmental impact and striving to improve our social impact every year.

In September 2020, we began to assess the full environmental impact of our business allowing us the opportunity to improve. In 2021 we began the process to become truly environmentally responsible by completing our first environmental impact assessment and putting into place our first Environmental Policy. We don’t have to share this information, but we feel it is really important for customers to understand who they are buying from. You won’t find any funky graphics or bamboozling graphs in our reports – just a good honest list of what we have been able to achieve as a small business during some very difficult trading times.

We are very proud of our great little business and the positive impact we have not just within our local environment and economy but globally too. You can be sure that when you choose to shop with us, your hard-earned money is supporting not just our fantastic staff team but many strangers around the world too.
